How to Install Gutter Screens
Installing gutter screens is a easy way to keep debris out and help prevent any problems that can occur from clogged gutters or downspouts. Learn how to install gutter screens in this Lowe’s video:
There are several styles of gutter screens. Some attach under the shingles, some have solid shields, and some are grills that snap into the gutters.
Before undertaking this project, thoroughly clean and repair your gutters.
You will need the following for this DIY project:
- Gutter screens
- Ladder
- Tape measure
- Tin snips
- Drill with bits
- Sheet metal screws
1. Figure out how many screens you’ll need by measuring each of your gutters individually. Your local home improvement store can assist you in making this determination.
2. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation.
3. Start at one edge of the gutter and slide the back edge underneath the shingles. Snap the leading edge into place.
4. Continue installation down the length of the gutter. When you get to the end, cut the last screen to length.
Use sheet metal screws to fasten the screens to the gutters if you live in a high wind area.
While gutter screens will cut down on accumulated debris, you should still maintain your gutters by removing the screens and cleaning them out every spring and fall.
