How To Install a Pedestal Sink
A pedestal sink does not stand on its own. A hanging bracket attached to the wall behind it supports its weight. The sink must first be secured to the wall before adding the pedestal. Learn how to install a pedestal sink in this video by The Home Depot:
You will need to install the mounting brace first. Check the instructions that came with the sink to find out where the brace must be mounted.
Cut a rectangular hole in the wall from stud to stud. You will need a piece of 2×8 cut to fit snugly between the studs. Screw the 2×8 brace securely in place by angling the screws through the brace and into the studs. Patch the hole, sand it smooth, and paint it to match the rest of the wall.
When the wall repair is complete, place the sink atop the pedestal against the wall to mark the position for the mounting bracket. Attach the bracket by driving screws through the wall and into the 2×8 brace. Use a level to align the bracket.
It’s best to install the faucet and other fittings before the sink is in place. Hang the sink on the bracket. Check to see that the pedestal will fit. Don’t worry if you have to lift the sink just a bit to slide the pedestal into place; this is normal. If the pedestal still doesn’t fit, however, adjust the position of the bracket as necessary. Remove the pedestal and connect the trap and water supply lines. Turn on the water and check for leaks.
