How to Install a Floating Fireplace
No matter what kind of space you have in your house, you can give any room a warm romantic glow by adding a modern wall-mounted fireplace that’s inexpensive and simple to install. Learn how to install a floating fireplace in this DIY Network video:
You can easily buy a wall-mounted fireplace online or at a home improvement store. In no time at all, and with just a screwdriver, you can create a relaxing retreat you’ll love to come home to.
To get started, measure the wall and figure out how high you want the fireplace from the floor. Make sure it’s at least three feet from anything flammable. Use a measuring tape and a level to mark a center point and a line on the wall for the top edge of the fireplace.
Get everything out of the box the unit comes in and start by installing the two mounting brackets provided. These need to be four inches apart for the model featured in this video, so using a ruler, measure two inches to either side of the center point. Now, holding up the brackets to those marks like a stencil, draw circles exactly where the four screws will go on the wall.
Pre-drill the holes and install the brackets using the hardware provided in the fireplace kit. For a wall that has brick behind it, use masonry screws. Once you’ve installed the bracket, double check with a level to make sure it’s not crooked.
Assemble the provided spacers on the back of the fireplace so it doesn’t rest directly against the wall. Now, you can hang the floating fireplace on the wall-mounted brackets. Make sure to remove any stickers and wrapping materials.
This fireplace functions just like a gas lamp, using a fuel reservoir that will burn until it runs out or is snuffed out using a sliding lid. After it’s secured on the wall, fill it up following the manufacturer’s instructions. Slide the provided strip of glass into place to keep the flames burning in an upward direction, and it’s ready to be lit. The flame will last a few hours. It’ll take the chill out of the air, and it’ll give your room a nice cozy feeling.
