How to Hang a TV Above a Fireplace

A common design dilemma is how and where to hang a TV. Designer Tiffany Brooks shares tips on how to hang a TV above a fireplace in this HGTV video:

There are several things you need to consider for proper TV placement:

  • Size: Don’t buy a TV that’s too big for a room. Typically you want to be able to sit 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 times the size of your TV away from it. For example, if you have a 60-inch TV, you want to be able to sit 90 to 150 inches away from the TV.
  • Height: If you have a room that’s massive with both standing and sitting room, you can hang the TV a little higher, maybe 60 inches from the floor. If you’re primarily sitting around it, you want to go a little bit lower, around the 42-inch mark.
  • Finishing Touches: Finish your TV by adding a little frame around it to make it look more like art or by placing it on a swivel.
