How to Grow Paperwhite Flowers
You can add freshness to your Christmas decor by adding paperwhites. Paperwhites are bulbs you can grow yourself, and unlike most other bulbs, they do not require chilling to bloom. They will grow in 5-6 weeks, so if you plant them in mid-November, they will bloom by Christmastime. Learn how to grow paperwhite flowers in this video by Robeson Design:
Paperwhite blooms are very fragrant, although not everyone likes the smell. If you want a low fragrance variety, choose Inball Paperwhites.
The best thing about paperwhites is that they do not require soil to grow, so in addition to the bulbs you will just need stones, gravel and several open containers.
Place the stones in the container. Press the bulb flat side down into the stones as far down as you can without going to the base. Surround the bulb with gravel to secure it in the container. Add water to the container to just below the bulb (don’t surround the bulb with water or it will rot). Place the bulbs in a cool dark place.
Once the roots start to grow, place the bulbs where they will get natural light. Once the paperwhites start blooming, you can place them anywhere in your home, and they will grow for a good three weeks.
