How to Grow Edibles in Containers

Edibles are easy to grow in containers. Learn the basics in this Lowe’s video:

Plastic or wooden containers are preferable as they are more durable and easier to lift than ceramic. Your containers should be at least 15 inches in diameter. The roomier your container, the more space there will be for roots to grow and the more productive your plants will be.

Once you’ve selected and planted your vegetable, add other plants like flowers and herbs. Herbs help keep pests away and add excitement to your container. Popular herbs include basil, chives, cilantro, lavender, mint, parsley and rosemary.

The main difference between growing in containers and growing in the ground is that container plants need more frequent watering and fertilizing. Make sure to water your containers thoroughly after planting and then regularly thereafter.
