How to Grow Amaryllis Bulbs

One way to enjoy blooming flowers even during the cold of winter is to grow bulbs indoors. Learn how to grow amaryllis bulbs in this P. Allen Smith video:

The amaryllis plant produces beautiful blooms in about six weeks, which makes it a great holiday gift for plant lovers. Amaryllis blooms range from red to pink to white. Newer varieties also come in salmon, and some have yellowish green tinges to the blossoms.

The good news is that anyone can grow amaryllis, even people who think they have a brown thumb. You only need to provide the right conditions for the bulbs to grow.

Since amarylllis blooms are large and tend to be top heavy, choose a large container so it won’t topple over and plant in ordinary topsoil up to the shoulder of the bulb. After potting, place it in a warm room or window. Wait until the first signs of growth appear before watering to prevent rotting.
