The other thing is that neutrals allow you to create a basic palette that works with any other color combination you want to use going forward, but the key to making them not boring is packing a room with neutrals that have texture. Here are some suggestions featured in this video:

  • This jute boucle rug is very comfortable under foot and helps hide flaws, and as it’s an organic material it has beautiful texture. It also has a little bit of pattern based on the braiding inside the rug’s construction.
  • The upholstery is in an oatmeal tone which is a beige with a lot of white in it so it’s not too yellow, and since white goes with any color, you’ll have a lot more colors in the spectrum to mix it up with.
  • When you have a neutral color sofa, you want to make sure to liven it up with pillows that have slight patterns or textures. This creates visual tension and keeps the room from feeling flat.
  • If you’re going to bring wood tones into your neutral space, don’t have them match perfectly. They can be all in the same color family. but with different variations of that same color.
