How to Define a Dining Room in an Open Floor Plan

We all want an open floor plan, but it’s hard to define space within space. Designer Genevieve Gorder presents ideas on how to define a dining room in an open floor plan in this HGTV video:



In this home, the dining room is in a half-alcove, which rules out a wallpaper solution as it would fragment the open floor layout even more. The dining space can be defined by either:

  • Using texture such as a large wall hanging, or
  • Creating a brilliant photo gallery wall – hang the photos non-linearly 1 to 1-1/2 inches part and incorporate different sizes and colors of frames
