How to Create a Tower Container Garden for Herbs

In just an hour’s time, you can create a tower container garden for herbs such as parsley, rosemary and sage. Learn how in this video by The Home Depot:

For this DIY project, you will need:

  • Terra cotta pots – one 8″, one 11 1/4″, two 13 1/2″, and one 18″
  • Potting mix – one 32-quart bag and one 8-quart bag
  • Five-foot garden stake
  • Ten herb plants (suggestions: basil, chives, dill, oregano, parsley, rosemary, lemon thyme – or whatever you like)
  • Bag of sheet moss (optional)

1. Choose a suitable location and clear away any debris.
2. Twist the garden stake about 8 inches into the ground and thread the 18″ pot onto the stake through the drainage hole.
3. Fill the pot 3/4 full with potting soil and plant four herbs around the perimeter.
4. Thread one 13 1/2″ pot onto the stake through the drainage hole, resting it with a slight tilt between the herbs in the 18″ pot. Fill it 3/4 full with potting soil and plant two herbs around the perimeter. Repeat with the second 13 1/2″ pot.
5. Thread the 11 1/4″ pot onto the stake through the drainage hole, fill it 3/4 full with potting soil and plant one herb.
6. Thread the 8″ pot onto the stake through the drainage hole, fill it 3/4 full with potting soil and plant one herb.

As a final optional step, soak pieces of sheet moss and place them in open spaces between the herbs. This will help your garden retain water and give it a great finished look
