How to Create a Mailbox Garden

Transform the front of your home by creating a mailbox garden. Learn how in this video by The Home Depot:

You will need the following:

  • Top Soil
  • Compost
  • Mulch
  • Shovel
  • Plants (lots of them)

1. Prep the site. Dig out the existing turf and break up the soil to allow for new plantings. Till the removed turf into the soil or place it grass side down to provide natural compost.

2. Plant your bed. Before you start, lay out the plants to make sure you like the arrangement. Experiment with varying heights to give your garden some texture. Place the tallest plants, shrubs or grasses in the center of the bed and work outward, surrounding them by shorter plants. Determine the spacing of your plants by asking a consultant or checking the plant tags. After planting, add a layer of garden soil to promote root growth.

3. Edge the bed to add contrast and protect it from weeds.

4. Feed your plants with water and liquid plant food.
