How to Create a Great Home Workspace

If you need to work from home but don’t have a dedicated home office, you can still carve out a functional workspace with a little ingenuity. Learn how to create a great home workspace in this HouzzTV video:

Start by identifying a space that works for you. Here are some home office solutions:

  • Seating area in a bedroom: Have your stack of notebooks or files on a side table that you can bring alongside your laptop and put back in place when your workday is done. This doesn’t change the flow of the space or require any additional furniture
  • Identify a corner: Add light and airy furniture like a glass desk.
  • Find an unused space: A wide hallway, nook or landing area can be used as an office. Use a live edge table that can be extended from wall to wall for a desk. You can tuck a file cabinet underneath if needed.
  • Re-purpose a closet: Put shelving inside a closet. You can take the doors off, or leave the doors on and close the workspace when you have finished for the day.

If you actually have a home office, use every square inch of that space. Put printers and cords in closed storage and books in open storage. If there is enough surface area, create workspaces for two people. Cord management is a common issue, but you can corral cords with a cord snake or cord basket to keep them out of sight.
