How to Create a Container Garden for Your Patio or Deck
All you need are some great plants to dress up your patio or deck. Container gardening is easy to do. Get tips on decorating your outdoor space with foliage and flowers in this Lowe’s video:
1. One single container can feel lonely. Use multiple containers of the same size or different sizes and form a group. Pack them in tightly with annuals and create a focal point.
2. Create a color theme and select colors that complement your house, patio or outdoor furniture. Marigolds, geraniums and lantana will go well with hot colors. For a more subdued cooler look, choose purple petunias, lavender bacopas. silver dusty miller or towering blue salvia.
3. Go low maintenance and pick plants that don’t require much care so you can spend more time relaxing. Succulents require little water, are disease and pest resistant and offer color and texture; some examples are sempervivum, echeveria and crassula.
4. Plant for privacy. Create a seculed haven with trees and shrubs in large containers. Small trees and larger shrubs like junipers, arborvitae, cypresses, lantanas and hibiscus provide beauty as well as privacy.
