While granite countertops are beautiful and durable, they are susceptible to staining unless they are properly sealed. Learn how to clean and seal granite countertops in this HGTV video:

For deep stain removal and sealing, you will need:

  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • Tape
  • Plastic wrap
  • Flour
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Terry cloth
  • Putty knife
  • Granite sealer

1. Remove stains with soapy water.

2. For a deep set stain, make a paste with hydrogen peroxide and flour and apply to the stained area.

3. Cover the area with plastic wrap. Let sit overnight, then remove the plastic wrap and wipe clean.

4. Seal granite with a granite sealer. You should reseal once a year.

For daily maintenance, make soapy water from dish soap and wipe clean with a terry cloth. Finish with granite polish using a microfiber cloth.

Lastly, protect your granite countertops from heat and scratches by using pot holders and cutting boards.
