How to Clean a Fireplace

In a woodburning fireplace, soot and dirt will collect over time. Cleaning it on a regular basis will keep it looking great and in good shape. Learn how to clean a fireplace in this Lowe’s video:



1. Remove your andirons and grates. Clean them outside with a nylon brush.

2. Shovel out any ashes and debris.

3. Scrub the fireplace walls with your brush. use newspaper to catch falling debris.

4. Deep clean with a homemade cleaning solution of 1 gallon warm water, 1 cup bleach and 6 tbsp trisodium phosphate. Brush the fireplace with the solution.

5. Towel everything dry.

6. Replace your andirons and grates.
