You can either brush on or spray on chalk paint. Spray paint is preferable where the furniture has detailing as you want to highlight all of the beautiful features. Chalk paint does not require a primer, but you may have to lightly scuff sand any glossy surfaces. Make sure you’re working in a well-ventilated area.

For a table, start by removing any hardware and taping off any metal edging or wheels. Lightly scuff sand the top and wipe clean. Apply the paint, using a brush than a roller. Start from the bottom and work up. You may need to apply multiple coats.

For an ottoman, cover the cushion and use a soap and water mixture to remove any oil or grease. Flip it over. Shake up the paint can, then spray, starting at the bottom and working up. Use an artist’s brush to fill in any detailing.

Once dry, apply a clear matte finish if the furniture will be exposed to wear and tear.
