How to Build Faux Pallet Shelves

Everyone loves the idea of making projects out of pallets; however, they’re not always free, and they can be difficult and sometimes dangerous to tear apart. By using pre-finished bar wood planks, you can achieve the same look without all the hassle. Learn how to build faux pallet shelves in this Lowe’s video:

For this DIY project, you will need a Kreg Jig Screw Kit and rustic cottage pine wall planks.

1. Figure out how much space you have.

2. Cut your planks to alternating sizes.

3. Drill pocket holes to fasten the boards together.

For a cheaper option, you can use pine boards that you can distress and finish yourself.

To distress the boards, run some screws through a piece of wood in different locations and hammer it against the boards. Use a punch and a hammer to simulate nail holes. Use a chisel to create deeper grooves as well as to weather the edges of the boards. Once you start to apply your stain, the distress marks will really show through.
