How to Build a Space-Saving Fold-Down Table

Do you need a table in a kitchen or other small room but don’t have the space? A flip-down table is the perfect solution. Learn how to build a space-saving fold-down table in this HGTV video:

For this DIY project you will need:

  • Plywood
  • 5/8-inch screws
  • Wood glue
  • 4-inch pine boards
  • Piano hinge

1. Measure the space to ensure there is enough room for the table to flip down.

2. Using the wood glue and screws, attach the boards to a sheet of plywood to make the frame.

3. Attach the piano hinge to a second sheet of plywood that will serve as the table top.

4. Putty, sand and prime the frame to prepare it for painting.

5. Screw the frame into the wall in several different places, using a level to ensure it’s straight. Putty, sand and prime again.

6. Paint the table top and frame. Applying blackboard paint on the inside of the frame allows it to double as a message board.
