How to Build a Floating Nightstand

Instead of the usual bedside table or chest of drawers, you can keep an alarm clock, books and other items in a small wall-mounted shelving unit. Learn how to build a floating nightstand in this video by Better Homes and Gardens:



1. Sand edges of two 6×24-inch shelves smooth.

2. With a hole saw, cut a spot for a drinking glass in the end of one shelf. Sand hole.

3. Sand a prefinished 8×24-inch white shelf.

4. Use multisurface glue to attach the 6×24-inch shelves to the top and bottom of the white shelf. Dry overnight with clamps.

5. Measure and mark pilot holes every few inches on each side.

6. Pre-drill marked holes.

7. Drill pilot holes for mounting screws.

8. Screw shelves together.

9. Locate studs on wall with a stud finder.

10. Place shelf and mark level.

11. Attach shelving unit to wall studs with drywall screws.
