Horizontal and Vertical Bamboo Flooring and Installation Options

Learn about horizontal and vertical bamboo flooring and the options for installation in these BuildDirect videos:

Horizontal flooring is manufactured by stacking bamboo slices on top of each other and laminating them together to form a solid surface. This type of flooring has a natural brushed look and reveals the bamboo’s nodes and imperfections.

Vertical flooring is made by stacking the bamboo slices side-by-side and laminating them together on their edges, so only the edges are visible on the floor. This type of flooring has a striped appearance with less natural detail.

If your subfloor is plywood or wood based, you can use the nail down or staple down approach.

If your subfloor is concrete, you have two installation options: glue down or floating floor. For a floating floor, an underlayment is rolled out on the subfloor with flooring planks incorporating a “tongue-and-groove” connection system installed over the underlayment.
