Sliding doors not only provide important functionality, but they also do it with a lot of style. They are a great fit for places that don’t allow for a lot of swing space for a door, and they provide more architectural interest than a pocket door. Sliders are also a good fit for a doorway that doesn’t get a lot of heavy traffic, but you still want the option to open and close the door between rooms.

You can choose from a variety of styles, so you’re sure to find the right one for your space:

  • Traditional barn door
  • Flat panel door with adhesive tiles
  • Slatted door
  • Polished panel door
  • Rustic door
  • Movable chalkboard

Here are some things to consider when choosing a sliding door:

1. Do you have enough space? If you’re using a single door, you will need enough room on at least one side of the doorway to completely open the slider. If you want double doors, you will need the width of an individual door on both sides of the doorway.

2. When installing the track, it’s usually mounted to a header attached to the stud in the wall, so be sure to measure for clearance so that the door passes easily in front of the frame.

3. Remember to think about how the door will be opened from both sides. A flush ring pull provides a way to open from the inside without the handle scraping along the wall.

So find a space and let one of these doors slide right in!
