Give Your Fireplace a New Look With Refacing
Is your fireplace old, ugly or outdated? Refacing is an inexpensive DIY project that will give your home a new look. This DIY Network video presents two different fireplace refacing projects:
Scenario 1: After putting their home on the market and getting no takers, the homeowners decided to reface their dated gold surround fireplace. They chose a porcelain tile surround with the look of natural stone. The cost of this upgrade was just $220. Tip: Picking a clean, neutral tile will make your fireplace appealing to a variety of potential buyers when it’s time to sell.
Scenario 2: The brick fireplace in the family room required a top-to-bottom upgrade. They came up with an original design for a mantel with the pieces cut from MDF. Tile covered the rest of the exposed brick. After painting and installing the remaining trim, the fireplace is a total 180 from where it started. This refacing project cost $700.
