From Warehouse to Dream Home – Electrical, Insulation and More

Now that framing is completed for this warehouse to dream home project, it’s time to move on to electrical, plumbing and insulation (not what anyone cares about, but it’s what you need). See the project details in this Lowe’s video:

The warehouse is 4400 square feet, so to keep this home cool during the hot summer months, two A/C units weighing 4 tons each were installed. Spray foam insulation and low-E glass were used to make the home as energy efficient as possible. Adding a custom-designed 28-panel solar system will reduce power bills by up to $170 per month.

MuteX soundproof material was used in the ceilings and walls to dampen sound around the house. Next, drywall was installed by hanging and finishing teams. Exterior plywood was used in the ceiling to showcase its height and provide structural integrity. With future decor in mind, a truckload of unique and interesting furniture was purchased from an import store.

Thinset concrete was poured over the old flooring and kept a gray neutral color. New interior wood windows and exterior copper-clad windows have low-E and impact glass. To maintain the character of the original warehouse, a rolling glass door was installed in the former loading dock area, and the front area security wall and and front door area were made from 125-year-old brick. Board-and-batten siding gives a Craftsman look to the exterior.
