Four Important Steps to Having a Weedless Garden

Taking a proactive approach and cultivating habits that will keep your lawn and garden beds healthy will make weeds less of a problem over time. Learn four important steps to having a weedless garden in this video by The Home Depot:

1. Do not till the soil as it destroys the soil’s natural structure and kicks dormant weed seeds up to the surface where they can germinate and grow.

2. Make strict designations between planting beds and walking areas. Don’t walk in the planting beds, and you’ll never compact the soil.

3. Cover planting beds with compost and mulch to keep the nutrients near the roots.

4. Use drip irrigation in your beds. It conserves water by putting it directly into the soil at the base of your plants instead of spraying it around the entire landscape where it will feed weed seeds deposited by wind or birds.
