Five Tips for Hiding Your TV
Watching television is one of America’s favorite pastimes, and the bigger the TV, the better. But how can you disguise that large boring screen on the wall? This HGTV video presents five tips for hiding your TV:
1. Turn your TV into a piece of art by putting a bright frame around it.
- Measure your TV to determine the right size for the frame. You don’t want the TV to touch the frame at any point, so add an inch to your measurements.
- Use crown molding to give your frame a more finished furniture look.
- Cut each edge on a 45-degree angle. Use wood glue to attach the pieces, then secure with finish nails.
- Build a base for the frame so it’s flush with your TV. Measure the gap between the TV and the wall – this is how tall your box should be. Choose your wood pieces depending on your measurement. Cut your pieces at a 90-degree angle, then glue and nail them together to make a box.
- Measure in 1-1/2 inches from the edge of your box all the way around. Use this measurement as a guide to set your frame, then nail.
- Add a pop of color by painting the frame (for example, a red semi-gloss).
- To hang the frame, use two sturdy picture hangers on either side of the frame.
Here are some other tips for disguising your TV:
2. Add curtains to a built-in.
3. For a more high style look, get a mount that will lift the TV from a hidden spot, like from behind a fireplace.
4. Use two pieces of artwork mounted on a moving track that can be slid out of the way to reveal the TV.
5. Mount the TV behind a automated roller shade that’s actually a customized art print. With a touch of a button, you can reveal the TV or hide it.
