Five Tips For Creating a Comfortable Bedroom

Regardless of the style of your bedroom (formal, funky, modern or traditional), it should be a place of comfort. This video by TheNest.com presents five tips for making your bedroom a place where you’ll love to lounge:

Choose a bed that supports your design sensibilities as well as your body. Here is a quick primer on bed styles:

  • Canopy bed: Can have a draped fabric covering – or not. Leaving the frame bare can still be stylish.
  • Platform bed: Typically has no foot or headboard and is elevated a foot or so above the ground by legs or framing.
  • Trundle bed: Stored by sliding under another bed and is usually on casters.
  • Sleigh bed: Has a scrolled headboard and/or footboard, usually resembles the shape of a sleigh.

When considering storage, remember that the outside of your furniture can be as useful as the inside. A dresser is a great place to display books, knick-knacks and jewelry.

A nightstand is practical, but it can also bring personality to your room. A nightstand created from a planter with a light bulb placed inside provides both ample reading light and a warm glow. And it doesn’t have to be a table – use a chair to hold books, some bare essentials and a small flower vase.

You can also get creative by the footboard of your bed. A bench or table can store throw blankets, towels or your favorite coffee table books.

Extra seating adds intimacy to a large space, and if you choose furniture you love, you’re actually use an otherwise empty area. If your bedroom has a fireplace, pulling up a side chair and table provides a relaxing place to read.
