Five Genius Home Decorating Hacks

Designer Sharrah Stevens discusses lessons learned from home decorating mistakes to help you save time and money in your own home. Learn about five genius home decorating hacks in this video by The Kinwoven Home:

1. Learn which type of shelf liner works best for your needs: Non-stick liner is not a good choice for high-traffic areas in your cabinets. Adhesive liner works well under items that aren’t meant to move. Another option is laminate square which is also sticky but thicker and less likely to tear.

2. Research the care and maintenance of your faucets before you buy: Black hardware requires more maintenance than you think because everything shows; hard water, toothpaste and soap leave a white powdery residue.

3. Shower head extenders affect water pressure: Extenders require extra pressure to operate properly, so don’t install them unless you have to.

4. Research wattage and lumens before buying new light fixtures: Unless you have can lighting or task lighting, don’t switch out a light fixture as the new fixture may not have the wattage capacity of the old fixture, resulting in dimmer than expected lighting.

5. Be mindful of the types of materials you keep near your stove: An acrylic spice rack over the stove can get discolored and dirty from exposure to heat and grease.
