Five Creative Ways to Use Holiday Lights
Light strings can be used for more than decorating your Christmas tree. Learn about five creative ways to use holiday lights in this video by Ace Hardware:
1. Tomato Cage Trees: Flip over a tomato cage and wrap it with prelit garland or holiday lights.
2. Globe Balls:
- Zip tie two wire hanging baskets together. Add zip ties every 12 inches. Cut tails off zip ties.
- Spray with silver paint and let dry (Tip: Spraying basket allows light to reflect).
- Wrap two strands of 100-count holiday lights. Make sure the plug is at the top of the globe.
- Hang with the basket chain.
3. PVC Pipe Candy Canes:
- Assemble PVC in this order to create a candy cane: P-trap, two-foot PVC pipe, and drain.
- Drill holes with 3/8-drill bit every 1 inch on candy cane (Tip: Use clamps on a table for better grip).
- In a well-ventilated area, spray entire candy cane white and let dry. Wrap with painter’s tape from top to bottom. Spray with outdoor red spray and let dry. Remove tape.
- Tip: Add rocks or small sandbags at the base for weight if needed.
- Insert a 50-count strand of outdoor LED lights (Tip: Use a wood dowel or stir stick to help insert lights). Make sure plug is at base of candy cane.
4. Twinkling Centerpiece: Feed twinkling lights into glass ornaments and create a strand of lights, centerpiece or mantel accent.
5. Glass Globe Lights: Place painter’s tape on a glass globe. Spray globe and let dry. Remove tape and place lights inside.
