Many plants benefit from division and replanting in the fall, including irises, daylilies, peonies, and many spring-flowering perennials.
It’s important to plant perennials at least 3 to 4 weeks before your anticipated frost date. Make sure they get watered in well for establishment. It’s always a good idea to send a plant into winter with plenty of moisture. Mulching is a good idea as well.
Fall, of course, is the traditional time to plant many spring-flowering bulbs like hyacinths, tulips, allium and daffodils. Different bulbs should be planted at different depths. You want to make sure that larger bulbs like tulips and daffodils get planted deeper than smaller bulbs like crocus and grape hyacinths.
