Exterior Bungalow Makeover

This 1950’s bungalow had a very basic front with angel stone cladding, concrete front steps and basic moldings and was in need of a facelift. See the results of this exterior makeover in this House & Home video:

While the back of the house was quite modern, the goal was to blend the traditional and modern elements in the front. Keeping some of the red brick exposed not only maintains the warmth but also blends in with the homes in the surrounding streetscape.

Wood painted in an onyx color covers the angel stone and gives a paneled look to the front. The front gable was built out 12-15 inches to provide depth; it was clad in cedar but painted in the same onyx color.

The front steps were widened and the entryway flanked with concrete benches and planters with trees. Limestone blocks border the front garden with its hydrangeas and boxwoods, while a DIY fence hides the front A/C unit.

A new awning and windows complete this exterior makeover.
