Energy Efficient Bulbs
Traditional incandescent bulbs are going away as they burn up to 90% of their energy as heat. Learn more about energy efficient bulbs that will do wonders for your wallets and for the planet in this HGTV video:
Energy efficient bulbs are 25% more energy efficient than a traditional bulb, but they will still cast that warm glow that we love in our homes. While they are not inexpensive to purchase, they can last between 10 and 20 years before you have to replace them, so that means a lot of savings down the road. Plus, you can save a couple of bucks per bulb on your energy bill annually, so that adds up too when you’re starting to think about replacing all the light bulbs in your house.
While they used to just come in one size, you can now get energy efficient bulbs in any size you can possibly want. There are LED bulbs for recessed or can lights, traditional pendant lighting, or a lamp that requires two or three smaller bulbs.
In the 2015 HGTV Smart Home, all of the lights in the home are on a home automation system. That means before going to sleep at night or leaving the house, tapping one button turns off every light, which saves the home – and you – tons of energy.
