Driveway, Walkway and Garage Upgrades: Which Projects are Affordable For You?

Want to improve the curb appeal of your home but don’t know what you can afford? Here are some possibilities based on four budget levels:

$500:

  • Create a welcoming entry at the driveway or street end of your front walkway by adding a decorative lamppost with flowers at the base or an arbor with a flowering vine.
  • To soften the lines of your walkway path, add a planting bed on the street side.
  • Clean your driveway and walkways with a rented power washer.
  • Paint your garage door and add new trim.

$1,000-$2,000:

  • Install a new garage door that complements your home.
  • Replace your gravel or concrete front walkway with concrete stained and patterned to mimic the look of brick or slate or resurface with a higher-quality material such as pavers or natural stone.

$5,000:

  • Create the look of a country estate by planting a row of shade trees on either side of a long driveway.
  • Install a covered entry portico.
  • Install a new garage door that complements your home.
  • Upgrade your driveway or install an inlay on your current driveway.
  • Install a new walkway.
