Dramatic Bungalow Transformation
An open-concept layout, new color palette and upgraded kitchen gives this 20-year-old home a much-needed modern makeover. See the features of this dramatic bungalow transformation in this House & Home video:
The main living space was cut off and very traditional with a massive wall and random columns that were not even structural support. Removing the wall and the columns created an open-concept layout. The space has a tone-on-tone neutral palette with a few pops of color and no custom draperies as the artwork is really the statement in the room. The stain-proof sectional is stylish and functional for this family of four.
Light engineered hardwood flooring, two 8-foot islands with overlapping butcher block and concrete slabs, and a backsplash built from two jumbo stone slabs make the renovated kitchen stand out. The eat-in area has large windows, dark walls, a smoked glass table and white chairs.
In the dining room, the original bookcase was retained but outfitted with a new round mirror and styling accessories. A new window was installed and the ceiling painted black. The chandelier was modernized by removing the lampshades and replacing the bulbs.
The master bedroom has light engineered hardwood flooring, white walls, modern light fixtures and a statement four-poster bed. Floor-to-ceiling concrete tile and faux wood tile give the master bathroom a modern spa look.
Other features include the bright minimal teenage daughters’ bedrooms and the den with its dark gray walls.
