DIY Wood Furniture Repair

Using a wax fill stick, touch-up pen, soft pad, rough pad and a plastic card, most cases of surface damage to your wood furniture can be repaired as a DIY project. You can find these items in your local grocery or hardware store. Make sure the color tone of the pen matches the color or finish of the furniture.

Start by filling up small dents with the wax stick and removing the excess with the plastic card. Rub the rough pad on the surface to get a smooth finish, and then dab it with the touch-up pen. Watch the process in this Pottery Barn video:

Final note: A “burn-in” or melting of the finish into the damaged area may be required if the furniture has sustained a deep gouge. For heirloom furniture, or if you want a perfect result, consult a furniture restoration professional.
