Design Evolution of a Master Bedroom

When designer Rebecca Robeson saw how well her ensuite bath remodel turned out, it inspired her to take on her bedroom next. See the design evolution of a master bedroom in this video by The Kinwoven Home:

Phase 1 of this bedroom evolution occurred prior to move in. The carpeting was replaced with hardwood flooring, the wallpaper was removed, and the strange opening over the door was closed in. The ceiling was raised, and the double doors were replaces with new French doors with frosted glass. IKEA wardrobe pieces with mirror fronts were installed. All that was needed for an update was new paint, new pillows, some new lamps and an area rug.

Phase 2 of this bedroom design is basically furniture, art, accessories and window treatments, and these elements changed over the years. Switching out accessories like pillows and lamps and adding fresh green plants changes the total feel of the room and makes it go with the bathroom updates.

In Phase 3, the header height was raised and the opening cased, allowing the creation of a large walk-in closet with a floor-length mirror, moody pendant lights, and custom ceiling-mounted cabinetry and organizers.

A final thought: Good design is not something that happens overnight for most of us; rather, it’s something that is a process, and it’s also connected to the seasons of our life.
