Country Kitchen Cabinets Provide a Warm Welcoming Ambience

Inspired by American country farm and early European kitchens, country-style kitchens are increasing in popularity due to their warm welcoming ambience. As a result of this trend, country kitchen cabinets are the central component of this kitchen style. This type of cabinet not only provides a cozy inviting feeling but is also durable and sturdy and performs well in busy kitchens. Scratches and dents will only enhance their look as these cabinets are meant to give the impression of age.

Country kitchen cabinets are constructed from woods such as cherry, hickory, maple, oak and walnut and come in four styles:

  • Formal Country: Clean, simple lines and cream or white in color
  • French Country: Accented by ornamental detail such as crown molding or carved doors
  • American or Casual Country: Known for rustic thematic elements incorporated into the design, such as fruits, vegetables, chickens or cows
  • English Country: May have open shelving or glass fronts and noted for simpler, cleaner lines

These cabinets are generally easy to clean with a mixture water and mild soap. Most manufacturers warn against using any abrasive cleaners.

Fieldstone has two cabinet lines; both have soft-close hardware to keep doors from slamming shut and 3/4″ adjustable shelves. The Custom line has 3/4″ construction and optional upgrades, while the Elite line has 3/8″ inch construction. These cabinets are made from cherry, hickory, maple and oak and have formaldehyde-free cores. You can also choose veneers made from renewable material such as bamboo.

Thomasville Cabinetry is very affordable and relatively simple to install; however, it is mass-produced rather than custom-made. These cabinets are only available at The Home Depot. Most products can be purchased unfinished if you prefer to stain or paint them yourself.

KraftMaid Cabinetry is known for “semi-custom” cabinets that come in a wide variety of features and style and affordable prices. They are constructed from cherry, hickory, maple, oak and thermofoil; the latter is produced by heat-fusing a thin vinyl layer onto a substrate material. KraftMaid cabinets, however, do not have the quality of custom-made cabinets, and some customers have reported receiving defective cabinets or nonmatching doors.

The installation cost of country kitchen cabinets depends on the type of cabinets used, the labor cost and the size of the job. You can save money by purchasing ready-to-assemble cabinets if you want to make it a DIY project.
