Convert Recycled Bottles Into Tiki Torches

One way to dress up your backyard for outdoor entertaining is to surround your seating area with tiki torches. This Build.com video shows you how to create your own tiki torches from recycled beer bottles:

For each torch, you will need an empty beer bottle, two grounding clamps, 1/4″ threaded rod, a roll of Teflon tape, 1/2″ copper coupler and cap, and a replacement torch wick (total cost around $8 per torch). You will probably have to cut the threaded rod down to a workable size.

  • Attach one grounding clamp to the desired location, attach the threaded rod, then attach the second grounding clamp to the other end of the rod.
  • Use the clamp to hold the bottle in place.
  • Wrap Teflon tape around the coupler to make a nice tight fit within the opening of the bottle.
  • Fill the bottle with torch fluid, run the wick through the coupler and set in inside the bottle. Use the cap to keep water from getting inside.
