Contemporary Remodel of a 1980s Bathroom

A successful remodel project takes what’s positive about an existing space and transforms it into something totally new. See the features of this 1980s bathroom renovation in this Trends video:

Retaining the architectural integrity of the original house while doing away with its tired and dated look was the goal of this bathroom remodel.

The existing skylight provided the starting point. Symmetrical his and hers vanities were cantilevered on opposite walls underneath the skylight, making the most of the natural light.

In turn, this allowed the creation of two other zones in this sleek, light and airy bathroom:

  • Toilet enclosure with frosted glass walls to one side of the vanities
  • Bathing zone with a freestanding tub and a large shower featuring slatted teak seating and flooring on the other side

Whimsical elements include freestanding towel holders, pieces from the owners’ art collection and the bubble chandelier in the center of the room.
