Cocktail Lounge Style Living Room Transformation
For homeowners who love to entertain, this small, dated living room was in need of a guest-friendly makeover. Watch how this room gets a cocktail lounge style transformation in this House & Home video:
This living room was too small for regular furniture to put in a layout that made sense for entertaining. As the project was done on a budget, money needed to be spent in the right places to get the right impact and the right use of the space. The original large sofa could only seat three people, and the fireplace was already clad with white tile.
The lounge conversion was achieved by installing a low long custom-built tufted sectional banquette in a warm gray color with accent pillows in mixed coral, gold and taupe fabrics. As the house was open to the rest of the house, the lounge layout allows guests to move freely from the living room to the dining room.
Graphic art and window treatments provide interest and impact. Large-scale nature-themed wallpaper tones down the white of the fireplace and brings a modern organic feel to the room. Together with the large over-the-mantel mirror, it makes the room feel bigger.
The existing chair was reupholstered with an ombre-effect fabric that ties in the rest of the color fabric. Sconce lighting was installed on the focal wall with candlelight fixtures on the other walls. Three small tables and a bar cart complete the room.
