Chapel-Like Powder Room
The design goal of the chapel-like powder room featured in this Kohler video was to create something traditional and timeless and give a tiny space a sense of importance:
A powerful architectural space was created by carving out a half-dome or altar-like niche. Vertical pilasters and engaged columns were placed throughout the space to identify its unique shape. Banded reed detailing lends a sense of verticality. Artisans applied a hand rolled marmarino plaster finish to the walls which complemented the pilasters.
Other features of this powder room design include:
- Carrara marble sink with brushed satin nickel faucet that sits on a pedestal with reeded detail
- Traditional tumbled marble mosaic flooring with an order detail that the space into two areas, giving an importance to the vanity area
- Cool water-like color palette and contemporary artwork with fluid water-like surface treatment
