Build a Bench Seat From Stock Cabinets

Get more seating and more storage with a simple bench seat. Learn how to build one yourself from stock cabinets in this Lowe’s video:

You can get a list of tools and materials and complete instructions for this DIY project here.

1. Remove the doors from two 12″ x 30″ stock wall cabinets and sit them on their tops.

2. Add two 1/2″ thick spacers to the end of one of the cabinets, then join the two units with screws.

3. Add two 1/4″ spacers to each end of the unit. These create a flush face so you can add MDF surrounds to the cabinets.

4. Add the sides using adhesive and let them dry.

5. Add the bottom piece and then the feet. A fifth foot in the middle helps support this long span.

6. Flip the unit, add the top and put the cabinet doors back on.

You now have a versatile stylish bench that can be used in an eat-in kitchen, at the end of the bed to store blankets, under the window to create a nifty nook, or in a playroom to keep toys tidy.
