Bright and Airy Treetop Oasis

The second floor addition of this bungalow was perched off to the side of the main house. It was closed off and dark, and the homeowners wanted to lighten it up and give it a loft feeling. See the features of this bright and airy treetop oasis in this House & Home video:

Ripping down the walls and the ceiling revealed tons more ceiling height. Taking down the wall in the stairwell made room for two skylights which allowed lots of natural light to pour in. These two decisions alone created the architecture of the renovated space.

A new window and seating area with storage underneath was put in the original niche. Two banks of drawers and cubbies were placed underneath the rafters, which helped to break up the tunnel of the niche. Across from the bed, the new built-in has closets, a dresser area and triangular mirror. The space has a soft color palette and is accessorized with fabrics that have Indian motifs.

The large master ensuite was created by combining the original bathroom and adjacent walk-through closet, allowing for a large glass shower lined with patterned tile and a very large custom warm oak vanity with a single sink and two tall vertical elements. Recessed lighting illuminates the shower tile at night, while wall sconces by the vanity exude an amber glow. Other features include the concrete floor tile laid in a herringbone pattern, a hand waxed oak stool with threaded edge detailing
and a whitewashed wicker vessel with greenery and gourds.
