Boring Bedroom Transformation

This boring, bland and beige bedroom needed personality, pattern and color, which it got thanks to a stunning makeover. See the transformation in this video by Better Homes and Gardens:

The problems were dull walls, out-of-scale furniture and accessories, and not a stitch of color or pattern. With a fresh design sense and a mix of existing and new, this bedroom underwent a dramatic yet achievable makeover.

A DIY molding treatment adds architectural interest to the boxy room and is simply stock trim boards from a home center. Painting the walls two tones of similar blues creates subtle contrast.

Switching out basic blinds for a stylish roman shade introduces the room’s color scheme to the windows.

The existing ruffled duvet and shams add texture, so they stayed, but the bed gets a color boost with additional pillows and fun sheets. Draping patterned fabric over the existing beige headboard gives it a little more personality.

Sometimes a makeover is about dialing back, which is why the billowy bed skirt was replaced with a tailored version that lets the top of the bed stand out. Similarly, yellow paint on only the frame of the existing nightstand, rather than the whole piece, provides just the right impact.

Wall sconces replace lamps that were too small, which frees up table space. In another scale fix, the tiny bench was nixed in favor of a longer one, which has room for storage underneath.

Art and objects displayed on the picture ledge, as well as accessories, add a final layer of style.
