Basics of Convection Ovens

A convection oven cooks food faster while saving energy. Learn the basics of convection ovens in this video by The Home Depot:

While a conventional oven merely surrounds your food with heat, the fan in a convection oven blows and circulates heat around your food during the cooking process, resulting in quickly prepared food and more evenly cooked meals. With convection ovens, food cooks about 25% faster and generally at lower temperatures. You’ll save time, energy and money.

If you’re a serious cook looking for the best possible performance, true convection ovens (also called European convection ovens), come with a third heating element integrated into the fan. Heat generates from the top, bottom and back of the oven cavity to deliver even greater uniform temperatures than regular convection ovens.

For best results when using convection ovens, be careful not to block the fan, overcrowd the oven or leave the oven door open during operation. Follow all other guidelines provided by the manufacturer.
