Annual Flowers for Summer Planting

A perfect way to get a beautiful summer show around your home is by planting annual flowers in your garden. Learn about some popular annuals in this Better Homes and Gardens video:

Coleus is a favorite as its color comes from its leaves, not its flowers. It comes in nearly every color from lime green to rich purple, and lots of varieties are variegated. While most types of coleus need shade, newer varieties can handle full sun.

Lantana is one of the most heat- and drought- tolerant annual flowers around. Its dark green leaves are a perfect accent for the colorful clusters of red, orange, yellow, pink, purple and white flowers. Many varieties have multicolored blooms.

Zinnia is an old-fashioned annual that is still as popular today as it was in your grandmother’s time. Newer varieties such as the Perfusion and the Zahara have perky flowers in shades of red, white, yellow, orange and pink and resist disease better than old-fashioned varieties.

Angelonia (also called summer snapdragon) offers blue, purple, pink and white flowers on spiky stems nonstop all summer long, regardless of the weather.
