Affordable Tiny Bathroom Renovation
There’s nothing wrong with having a tiny bathroom – unless it hasn’t been renovated in decades. This retro bathroom had unattractive yellow fixtures and brown, green and cream colored tiles and laminate flooring and desperately needed an upgrade. Because this is a rental, the design goal was to keep the bathroom functional, easy to clean, timeless and (of course) on budget.
The shower/tub combo was kept at the original size, leaving space for a ledge (perfect for shampoos and other bathing products) and an overhead towel rack. A brand new medicine cabinet provides additional storage.
Every single surface, including the ceiling, was tiled, making the space easy to clean. There was no room for a vanity, but the 21-inch pedestal sink fits perfectly. Taking advantage of the high ceiling, the shower rod was mounted high to dry the eye up. To extend the ready-made shower curtain, a colorful DIY band was added to the bottom.
The floor tile was purchased at clearance from a big box store, and the toilet, sink and tub were very affordable, keeping this reno project on budget. A dimmable energy-saving LED light fixture provides the finishing touch.
