Affordable DIY Small Patio Makeover

This characterless, tree-less small patio lacked function, color and style as well as a place to dine. See how an affordable DIY makeover injected personality and function into the space in this House & Home video:

The new patio design accommodates the barbecue and A/C unit that had to stay in place. A dark blue lattice panel and cover for the A/C unit adds architectural interest, ties in with the greenery and hides the basement window. Painting the lattice divider in the same shade of blue as the panel ties the pieces together.

The existing wood fence was left in its natural state. An elongated DIY bench doubles as a lounging area and as storage. A sleek contemporary outdoor full dining set with a glass top and black frame and chairs seats up to six people. A wall of easy-maintenance cedars provides a backdrop to the seating area. Several small plants, plush cushions and accessories provide the finishing touches.
