Adult and Teen Friendly Basement Renovation

These homeowners have a style that’s both traditional and comfortable, and as their children were entering their teen years, their finished basement needed to be converted into a gathering place perfect for all ages. See the features of this adult and teen friendly basement renovation in this House & Home video:

At the foot of the stairs is a large rec room and a bar with new swivel stools. The giant drum set in front of the fireplace was replaced with two comfortable chairs. A cozy sectional, round ottoman and swivel chairs allow family and friends to enjoy a movie projected on the opposite wall or just gather for conversation. Behind the sectional is a games table. The existing built-ins conceal a secret door that leads into an electrical room.

Adjacent to the rec room is a homework area that was accessorized but otherwise left as is; the kids area and home office were flipped. The new teen space is a hangout for playing video games and watching TV with friends as well as the new home for the drum set. The adjacent craft room has bright vibrant wallpaper, an island and built-ins for storage and displaying ribbons, wrapping paper and other craft supplies.

Because of the lack of natural light, the home office has a more masculine vibe and is furnished with a huge desk and purposeful built-ins for storage and display.
