Add Energy and Style to a Bland Wall With a Graphic Design

A bare wall presents an opportunity to create something fun. Learn how to add energy and style to a bland wall with a graphic design in this House & Home video:

While art work could be hung on the white walls of this eat-in kitchen nook, it would probably just be in the way of those sitting on the banquette. Designer Reiko Caron took a different approach and created a dynamic paint design that was completed in one afternoon.

You can use this same technique to design your own wall project. All you need is painter’s tape, a small roller, a quart of paint and a little creativity.

1. Sketch out a rough pattern of the design you have is mind.

2. Frame off your work area with painter’s tape. This helps set boundaries to the design and helps you visualize your canvas.

2. Tape out your design. Painter’s tape is forgiving if you have to re-angle any lines and is also easy to cut for customization. It’s important to visualize negative space versus the painted lines to make sure everything is in balance.

3. Using the small roller, apply the paint to the wall. You may need two or three coats for a dark color.

4. Remove the painter’s tape to view your finished design.

5. Add colorful accessories to complete the look.
