Wall-Mounted Creative Workstation

If you have a creative child, this DIY workstation is a great solution that saves space in your home. It’s a whiteboard and a working desk, and it’s completely off the ground. Learn how to make a wall-mounted creative workstation in this HGTV video:

This workstation is made out of one full sheet of 3/4 plywood and one 1×2.

1. Cut the following pieces from the plywood:

  • One 36×30
  • One 18×30
  • One 28-1/2×4
  • Five 4×2
  • Two 30×4
  • Two 18-1/2×4

2. Cut one 8′ piece from the 1×2.

3. Assemble the body of the workstation using wood glue and 1-1/2 inch wood screws.

4. Make triangular support brackets from two 11-1/4 inch and two 12-inch wood pieces, using a miter saw to make the 45-degree cuts. Assemble using wood glue and 1-1/4 inch wood screws.

5. Paint the drop leaf with dry erase paint to create a whiteboard. Paint the remaining wood pieces in your chosen color. Set aside and let dry.

6. Measure, cut and add cork board to the back and secure with a hot glue gun.

7. Assemble the workstation. Use a 30-inch piano hinge for the drop leaf. Attach the support brackets to the base of the desk using 12-inch piano hinges. Allow an inch of clearance from the outside in.

8. Use two 12-inch French cleats to mount the workstation to the wall.

You now have a workstation that has storage for art materials, a cork board to put art work on display, and a working whiteboard that turns into a sit-up desk.
